The Holy Spirit is our help. So many times we forget this very basic truth. A born-again believer has received the Holy Spirit as his gift from God.
For without the Holy Spirit, it is impossible for us to call God our Father.
It is important to keep reminding ourselves that we are children of God. Even for this, the Holy Spirit from within gives witness that you are indeed God’s child, as you have believed in Jesus Christ and accepted Him as your Lord and Saviour of your life.
We have this privilege to call God our Abba Father.
Now, having been known by God and also knowing God—this knowing of God is a gift. The world does not know Him. When we were in the world, we too were blind.
But Jesus Christ came in search of us, to find us, to set us free, and to open our eyes to know Him.
So, as we continue to know Him through His Word, the Holy Bible, we are being brought to an elevated way of life, as saints and disciples of Christ.
We need to fulfill the responsibilities of a disciple of Christ in our everyday walk.
This is an elevated corridor of life. Earlier we were sinful, yet we did not know; we were living in it. Now we are set apart, born again, washed, and made clean by His grace, by His precious blood, and by the Holy Spirit breathing new life—awakening our inner man to the knowledge of the one true Living God.
To drive through this elevated corridor, we will need a co-pilot—the One who knows the way forward, yet walks with us shoulder to shoulder. The Holy Spirit is our true friend and guide.
Galatians 5:16 CEV If you are guided by the Spirit, you won’t obey your selfish desires.
Every day we need His guidance, as He knows the path and its hairpin bends.
Because our body is still the fallen one, we need to cut off its desires which are contrary to the new life we now live in Christ.
Galatians 5:19-21 CEV [19] People’s desires make them give in to immoral ways, filthy thoughts, and shameful deeds. [20] They worship idols, practice witchcraft, hate others, and are hard to get along with. People become jealous, angry, and selfish. They not only argue and cause trouble, but they are [21] envious. They get drunk, carry on at wild parties, and do other evil things as well. I told you before, and I am telling you again: No one who does these things will share in the blessings of God’s kingdom.
We are born again; we are new creations in Christ Jesus. All the old has passed away, and everything has become new. So it is all the more important to know the new life and walk in it.
Galatians 6:7-8 CEV [7] You cannot fool God, so don’t make a fool of yourself! You will harvest what you plant. [8] If you follow your selfish desires, you will harvest destruction, but if you follow the Spirit, you will harvest eternal life.
Yes, it is important to pause, look at our life, the path we have travelled so far, and do course correction in the light of the above Word. The Holy Spirit will help us. We should ask His help to search our hearts and show us the areas we have to surrender to God.
To cut off those wicked desires which lead us to destruction.
The Holy Spirit of God will pour out God’s love into our hearts if we ask for it.
He will help us mortify those desires and habits we struggle with.
